Based in Chatan Town, Okinawa, Cha-Ashibi is a general incorporated association built on the concept of “Play, Learn, and Connect on Earth, and Live a Rich Life.” We host a variety of events, including English conversation classes, a children’s cafeteria, and the Cha-Ashibi Kid’s Festa. Their name, “Cha-Ashibi,” comes from an Okinawan phrase meaning “to play a lot.”
Their goal is to pass on the idea that learning happens through fun, creating a community where people of all ages can play on Earth, be mindful of the environment, and participate together.
Cha-Ashibi Kid’s Festa
The Cha-Ashibi Kid’s Festa is an annual charity event for children that our association has hosted since 2022. It’s a day for kids to take center stage and have a blast, with hands-on kitchen truck experiences, workshops, stage performances, a children’s cafeteria, and more. All proceeds from the event, after covering operational costs, are donated through the Chatan Town Council of Social Welfare to support children’s community organizations in Okinawa.
Regarding the inspiration for starting projects focused on children, such as the Kid’s Festa and the children’s cafeteria, our representative, Mutsuko Inamine, said, “I realized that while adult-focused activities are great, mothers with children might find it difficult to participate. I wanted to create a place where they could feel at ease as well.”

Cha-Ashibi House
Another key initiative for their association is their “Children’s Third Place” project. Since 2024, we have been operating Cha-Ashibi House, a place for children to gather and belong.

Located in Kuwae, Chatan Town, Cha-Ashibi House is a daily weekday haven for kids after school. It’s a place where children can do their homework, enjoy their favorite activities and studies, and join in a communal dinner with other children and adults. Their activities are all aimed at building a community-wide approach to child-rearing.
